We love chickpeas! Even though they currently hold a somewhat unglamorous status in the kitchen (see Tooty-Fruity point below for possible explanation). Despite the delicious edibility of fresh falafel and/or hummus! Enter our spiced chickpea recipe for a healthy snack easily adaptable to your taste!
Nutrition:
- Good digestive aid. According to Dr. Google, and other sources, chickpeas or garbanzo beans are extremely high in insoluble fibre, meaning it remains largely undigested as it goes through your body which helps to facilitate digestion.
- Red blood cell aid. Our friends over at Live Strong have a great article on the Benefits of Chickpeas. Highlighted in this are the folate and protein-rich aspects of chickpeas which play a key role in the formation of red blood cells ~ particularly important for women!
- Tooty-Fruity. Yes, chickpeas are gas-inducing due to a number of complex sugars that our bodies are unable to digest! However, thanks to the Internet, we are now aware of 7 Ways to Avoid Gas! Our favourites being ~ creating recipes using dried beans rather than canned, eat them with lots of green veggies, and use digestive spices such as ginger or turmeric (both of which are currently available at our online store)!

- 1 can Chickpeas (or soak dried chickpeas if time is not an issue)
- 1/2 tbs Sunflower oil
- 1 tsp Organic ground ginger (available at our online store)
- 1 tsp Organic cracked black pepper (available at our online store)
- 1/2 tsp Organic hot ground chilli (available at our online store)
- Pre-heat oven to 180C and line baking tray with baking paper.
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl until all chickpeas are evenly covered with oil and spices.
- Place chickpeas on baking tray and bake for 5 minutes or until golden.
